Alessandro Drago trained musically under Maestro G. Agosti, under whose guidance he graduated with highest honours from the Conservatory 'S. Cecilia' in Rome.
Subsequently, the precious encounter with M° F. Zadra — whose assistant Drago was for three years, also in Lausanne (Switzerland) — brought him into contact with one of the most important international piano schools: that of V. Scaramuzza, teacher among others of Marta Argerich, B. Leonardo Gelber and D. Barenboim.
Of fundamental importance for his artistic development was his attendance at the seminars on "Phenomenology of Music" at the University of Mainz (Germany), led by the great conductor Sergiu Celibidache.
After his debut in Rome in 1982, on the occasion of the "Primavera di Roma" Festival — alongside internationally renowned pianists such as Magaloff, Gelber, Lonquich, Firckusny, Demus and Zadra — A. Drago has performed with great success, regularly, in Italy and abroad.
He has played as a soloist in various concert institutions and festivals in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Argentina, Japan, Russia and Romania, as well as for the Philharmonic Societies of Tallinn (Estonia), Riga (Latvia) and Tbilisi (Georgia).
In Russia he has given recitals at the Moscow Conservatory and, with orchestra, in the Grand Hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic.
A. Drago has recorded for major broadcasting companies — including Argentine and Russian Radio Television and the German Bayerische Rundfunk — and has participated in programmes for RAI and Radio Vaticana.
In the 1990s, alongside his solo career, he developed an intense artistic collaboration with the Rimsky-Korsakov String Quartet of St. Petersburg, and subsequently with German clarinetist Klaus Hampl, Russian violist Aleksej Popov, and cellists Luca Fiorentini and Francesco Sorrentino.
A. Drago has performed on several occasions in Salzburg, both in solo recital and in duo with American cellist Robert Choi and violinist Luz Leskowitz.
For many years he has devoted himself with great passion to the training and artistic development of young musicians, in Italy and abroad. He has given courses and seminars on "Phenomenology of Music" at music associations, the University of Sassari, and in several Conservatories where he has taught. For three years he was also a lecturer in Phenomenology of Music and Musical Gesture at the Fondazione Résonnance, Rome branch.
Since 1990, A. Drago has taught piano at various Italian Conservatories, and from 2007 to 2025 at the Conservatory "U. Giordano" in Foggia.
He lives in Rome, and is still available to anyone who wishes to undertake this experiential journey, also through seminars and intensive courses, such as the annual course organised by the Umbria Classica International Courses.
